The Blacklist s4 ep 18

Mr. Kaplan has hired this week’s Blacklister, bounty hunter Philomena (our old friend Susan Misner, always a welcome sight), to assist with her ongoing war against Red. Philomena is hunting down Red’s accomplices in the hope that Mr. Kaplan will be able to turn them. She starts with Red’s finance guy, then moves onto a woman who appears to have nothing whatever to do with Red. But Philomena is playing a long and subtle game. I didn’t see where it was going until the moment of revelation.

Meantime the 86 bodies Mr. Kaplan left at the ice rink in last week’s episode are being investigated by one Julian Gale (Enrique Murciano, who was Danny in Without A Trace). Entertainingly, Gale – who might be a bit of a horse’s ass, too soon to be certain – used to be Ressler’s partner when they were trying to hunt Red down, and assumes that Red is still at large; he doesn’t know about Red’s arrangement with the FBI, and why the discovery of dozens of Red-related corpses might actually be something the FBI could happily live without. Another excellent episode, if not quite as good as last week’s.

Hm. I’m a few weeks behind and struggling to motivate myself to catch up. I really don’t like self-righteous, hypocritical villains/antagonists/whatever we’re calling her as a general rule and Mr Kaplan is currently top of the pops on that list. She is doing my head in. If she genuinely just wanted to take responsibility for what she’d done, she could hand herself in and stop pontificating. What she actually wants is revenge on Red, which might well be fair enough, but she can just climb down off her high horse and stop pretending otherwise as far as I’m concerned. She’s no better than he is.

Meanwhile, is Julian Gale supposed to be so…. twitchy? He seems a bit antsy and over-excited to have worked well with Ressler in the past, I would have thought.

I found it a bit weird that everyone was all “OMG how can it not be Red’s print on the record brush?!?!” Um… maybe Red didn’t touch the record brush? Why would he? It’s not like it was the murder weapon. Maybe Diane’s housekeeper or another visitor touched the brush before! Am I missing something really obvious?

Samar can get knotted. AGAIN. She is beyond obnoxious.
