Damages ep 9

No sign of Patty’s son or Ellen’s parents this week, so we’re probably on the home stretch.  On the downside David’s stalker is back, which brings an unwelcome suggestion that she might feature in the shakedown.  Unless – of course! – she’s just a pretend stalker, in the pay of Frobisher.  Or Patty.  Or Uncle Pete.  It would be in keeping with the unreliability of every character in this programme if you couldn’t even trust the psycho to be a straightforward psycho.

In praising the acting of Željko Ivanec and Ted Danson recently I wouldn’t want it to be thought that I was ignoring just how good a performance Glenn Close – not always one of my favourites – is putting in.  Her character needs to have the sort of charisma that makes it plausible that everyone would turn cartwheels to keep her happy, and Close is firing on all cylinders in this series.

See! I SAID I thought loony-psycho-stalker-bitch might be a plant, although I do think Patty’s more likely to be her paymaster. If she’s not, I’ll be very disappointed – loony stalker’s just getting in the way otherwise.

This was a great episode though, nice contrast of some characters trying to make amends and others engaging in ignoble betrayal. The ending seemed a bit out-of-the-blue crazy though, even for a Glenn Close character. And that’s saying something.

Was everyone reminded of the boiling bunny when the sister was making her popcorn?

Not at the time, Dona, but now that you mention it….

NB – Showbiz trivia alert! did anyone else know that Peter Facinelli (aka poor Gregory Malina) is married to Jennie Garth (aka not-at-all-poor Kelly from Beverly Hills 90210)?!?!?!

NB2 – I’ll head back under my rock now, nothing to see here.
