Hawaii Five-0 s2 ep 18

The big news this week is, of course, the appearance of Scott Caan’s father James as roguish retired New York cop Tony Archer. He gets plenty of screen time – the first half of the episode is more or less given over to bickering between Steve, Danny and Archer – and takes full advantage, turning the episode into something of a showcase. His chemistry with Stanno is good as well, offering at one point – Bromance Watch! – to be their marriage counsellor.

The episode itself is about the death of an offshore shock-jock played by Dennis Miller. It’s an enjoyable romp which slips down very easily, although I have a suspicion that the actors were having just a little more fun than I was.

I loved this. Best H50 ep I’ve seen. Except for the unconvincing and slightly rubbish DJ routine(I like Dennis Miller, but he can be a lot funnier than whatever his character was spouting) and the egregious product placement as you’ve pointed out Jed: last week’s “Are you taking us to dinner at the Hilton?” was bad enough, but this week’s “Did you take Grace to the pool at the Hilton?” Good grief.

But James Caan is fabulous and I thought the episode was hilarious. I’d much prefer him to hang around than Joe White who was too busy being all enigmatic and serious to be remotely fun.

Yeah, the consensus seems to be that this is a Five-0 (“Five-who?” Hee.) hall-of-famer.

Can James Caan stick around? Cause that was downright awesome. Five-who was one of my favorite lines ever, as were the other one-liners delivered during the show. You could see where Scott Caan got his acting ability from – good old dad.

    Loved it.
