Hawaii Five-0 s2 ep 4
After last week’s rather torpid episode, this is much more like it. A salvage diver is dead, and some gold coins are found in his apartment, suggesting that he was on the trail of the potentially valuable wreckage of a Spanish galleon. The Five-0 take the coins to a local museum, where a (young, female, hot) member of staff helps to identify them. Danny likes her; flirtatious banter ensues. Between Danny and Steve, obviously. Danny’s oddly reluctant to ask her out, just as Steve totally forgets to ask his FWB out to dinner when she turns up. Hmm. Anyway, the story pivots and wanders off in another and more intriguing direction, and in the time-honoured fashion of procedurals potential baddies turn up dead until there’s only one left standing. (In a nice touch, the real-life scientific head of the JPAC – Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command – plays the fictional equivalent.) Of the two longer story arcs dealt with this week, I really don’t care what Kono is up to, it doesn’t seem as if the writers do either, and it follows that Grace Park looks fed up as well. I’m a bit more interested in what Joe is playing at with that video of Steve’s father cosying up to Wo Fat, but it wasn’t allowed to get in the way of a decent episode.
Meh. It wasn’t as boring as last week’s, but I still zoned out about half way through then had to force myself to pay attention again, for limited reward.
I agree with you though, Jed, that Grace Park looks very fed up indeed – and who could blame her? The Kono story is BEYOND boring and weaving Chin, the dullest man on TV, into it is only making it even more soporific.
Also, the Papa McGarret mystery thread isn’t working for me. Terry O’Quinn is awesome, but Joe White just seems to be there to make enigmatic faces and announcements rather than anything else, and, as you pointed out last week, Jed, he’s taking time away from Danny/Steve which is NOT OKAY. Besides, surely the only person in the world who cares what Steve’s dad was doing or doubts his good intentions is Steve himself? I certainly don’t give a shrimp ice cream.
There’ll need to be more Danny/Steve and less everything else soon or I might quit watching again.
This was just OK for me. A fairly standard story, more airtime for Lori (seriously, who cares?), and the Kono B-plot is as dull as. Add to that a distinct shortage of bromance and a disappointingly low body count (what, is Hawaii running out of people Steve hasn’t shot yet?)
Still, nice to see Autumn Reeser back on TV as Danny’s new love interest. Hopefully she’ll be No Ordinary Girlfriend. (Oh, I’m so funny …)
It’s been a wobbly start to the season. Can we get back to Steve and Danny’s Brokeback Mountain, Kono kicking the crap out of bad guys and Chin getting strapped to bombs again? Oh, and more scenery. We like the tourist porn.
Lori the profiler hasn’t done much profiling yet, has she? In fairness I don’t find her any more or less interesting or annoying than Kono was.
