Desperate Housewives s5 ep 4

Possibly a bit less annoying than last week, but not really a whole lot better, this episode ran through a few little stories of family life on Wisteria Lane.

So we had the Fairview Ripper trying to play a larger part in his son’s life; this ending with Susan persuading the boy to take a dive off a bike, as a result of which he was hospitalised.  Susan!  You’re so kooky!  Boy’s in the ER!  Heh!  We had Orson sulking a bit and pretending to go to work.  There’s a flashback episode coming soon: perhaps it will reveal why Orson and Bree are still together, as I’m fecked if I can work it out.  We had Carlos unknowingly diddling Gaby in front of their daughter.  To be clear – he knew he was diddling her.  He didn’t know that Juanita was watching.  And also to be clear – although this might sound unpromising, it was possibly the best storyline of the week.

Meantime Lynette got incredibly and unconvincingly drunk and laid bare the depths of her jealousy for Bree.  Lynette, babe, you can still move your face, which is something Bree will never be able to do again. I would love the writers to have the courage to hint that in the five years between seasons 4 and 5 Bree took herself off to have a bit of work done.  Won’t happen though.

Personal highlight, though, was the delightfully absurd scene in which Mini-Me exploded in wrath at Edie, then took himself upstairs to root through a caseful of medication before finding the pills he wanted.  Presumably he tossed aside the ones suitable for “slightly miffed – like someone changing the channel while you’re watching TV” and “really not happy at all – use when you think you might shout a bit”, settling instead on “homicidal rage”.  It now seems, incidentally, that it’s the Ripper he’s after.  My money says that Mike’s cleaning of the streets is finally catching up with him.

I don’t know, he doesn’t seem keen on Mrs McCluskey and apparently he’s about to organise a sinister sounding surprise party for her…

Can’t believe Mike fell for the patently fake dive.

The only good storyline was the Carlos- Gabrielle-forget-to-lock-the-door moment. They and Mrs McCluskey are the only watchable things left.

I SO don’t care who mini-me is after, I just wish he’d get a shifty on because it’s dull, dull, dull.
